the lives of these children. Most of the needed supplies can be purchased much less
expensively in Mexico. Plus, we can negotiate discounts from compassionate local
merchants. The merchant community in Zihuatanejo is very sympathetic to the plight of
these kids.
Spreading the word is critical. The success of our efforts is totally dependent upon caring
friends telling other caring friends. Please send a note of endorsement to the folks on your
e-mail address list, along with the www.losninos.us link. Think of it as a benevolent chain
letter, from which only good things can result.
Although a bit more work, a brief note sent individually to each friend is believed to be more
than twice as effective as one note broadcast to all. Either way, your few minutes of effort
will make a very valuable contribution toward telling the story of these dedicated parents
and their deserving children.

your church and civic groups. Host a fund raising party. Perhaps your child’s class or
school would benefit from having a “sister” group in Zihuatanejo.
Local Volunteers. Zihuatanejo residents and longer-term visitors can participate in such
after-school activities as teaching arts and crafts. Teacher’s aides and tutors are also
needed, although knowledge of conversational Spanish is necessary.
Visitors to Zihuatanejo are encouraged to bring bi-lingual children’s books; such as
dictionaries, “pictionaries”, fairy tales, workbooks, etc. ( A cautionary note: Mexican
Customs agents will occasionally seize quantities they deem “excessive”.)
Donations of boxes of fresh fruit, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, hand soap, paper towels,
first aid supplies, Purel (waterless hand sanitizer), and children’s multivitamins with iron
are just some of the welcome items you can provide.
